4:45pm: Pre-Concert Talk – Professor Harry White (Emeritus Professor of Music, UCD)
5:30pm: Concert
As part of the 2026 EU Presidency Culture Programme in Mayo, Cór Mhaigh Eo (director: Kathy Quinn) and Louisburgh Voices (director: Dr Pauline Graham) present a collaborative choral concert in the historic setting of Ballintubber Abbey, Co. Mayo. This event brings together two Mayo-based community choirs to celebrate Europe’s shared musical heritage and Ireland’s place within it.
The programme highlights strong European cultural connections, featuring Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem and Jules Massenet’s Méditation, two landmark works from the French choral and instrumental tradition, which will be presented alongside instrumental music by Irish composer Charles Villiers Stanford, illustrating Ireland’s contribution to the wider European classical music canon.
The choirs will be joined by professional vocal soloists Pauline Graham (soprano) and Owen Gilhooly-Miles (baritone), organist Michael Quinn, and the internationally acclaimed ConTempo Quartet. The performance will take place in the historic setting of Ballintubber Abbey, founded in the 13th century, deepening the cultural and European context of the programme.
